Back to Oran
Yves Saint Laurent was born in Oran in 1936 where he spent his first nineteen years, before flying to Paris. Between 1955 and 1960, he came back to see his family, which left at the time of Independance (1962). In Algeria, he experienced the cosmopolitism through a colonial city where the Catholic French live together with the Jews, the Muslims, the Spanish people. The 1st of June 2018 marks the tenth birthday of his death, Laurence Benaïm, his biographer and Sonia Sieff, have investigated in Oran, and reveal with unseen images and testimonies, through the very specific locations and huge influences, showing the mystery of the couturier and the city, far from exotism and orientalism.
